CTA’s Response to the Department for Transport’s Consultation

On Friday 4 May the Department for Transport’s 12 week consultation on section 19 and 22 permits closed. Throughout that time you, your passengers and the public including our friends and supporters across the third sector and transport industry have been vocal in letting the Department know how its proposed changes will have a devastating impact on communities and vulnerable people in all parts of the country.

The consultation was an opportunity to show the Department for Transport the real-life implications of their new stance and guidance on the use of section 19/22 permits. As well as supporting members to respond and conducting a review of the UK Government’s impact assessment we also started our #WithoutCT campaign to show ministers the passion and strength of feeling for community transport across the UK.

Community transport operators have been sharing stories of how their communities would be affected if they could no longer operate their services, passengers sharing their messages of what life would be like without community transport, as well as members of the public directly contacting Transport Ministers Jesse Norman MP and Nusrat Ghani MP urging them to stop and think again. So far, tweets with #WithoutCT have reached over 250,000 people and appeared on their timelines over half a million times. I’m incredibly proud of the way that our members have stood up and made their voice heard on this important issue.

Thank you also to all of our members who have sent us a copy of their response to the Department’s consultation. We’ve seen responses from traditional community transport providers, organisations for whom transport is part of their work, such as schools, universities and other third sector organisations – all of which help reinforce our sector’s message that these changes cannot go ahead as they stand.
