In June, the Community Transport Association and HCT Group, the UK’s largest transport social enterprise, are running an event to explore what it means for a community transport provider to have an entrepreneurial approach to their activities. The event also explores  the support  available for organisations who want to explore new and different ways to raise funds through their trading activities.

The event is aimed at the  increasing number of community transport providers who are deciding that their mission and vision compliments being more enterprising –  enabling them to provide even more social good in their communities.

What to expect on the day:

Morning Sessions:

What is a ‘social enterprise’? Andy Daly, Social Enterprise UK

An increasing number of community transport providers are deciding that the mission and vision that underpins their organisation fits hand in hand with being more enterprising to enable them to provide even more social good in their communities. We’ll hear from Andy about the Social Enterprise movement and the principles that underpin the businesses that call themselves social enterprises.

Sharing the principles of success. South Pennine Community Transport, Llanwrtyd Community Transport & West Norfolk Community Transport

In this session we hear from three community transport providers who have had success in a delivering a new project or services. They will share what they have been doing differently, how they identified the opportunity and what principles they have used to make it a success. This will be followed by a group discussion and opportunity to ask questions.

Afternoon Sessions:

Developing ideas for new ventures – Bill Freeman, CTA

The session will take a tour through some principles and approaches to discovering possibilities for new services and then designing the best way to bring them to life. It will introduce tools and techniques adapted from other fields that you can take back and use with your own team and stakeholders.

Afternoon Breakout Sessions

Participants will be able to choose between two practical breakout sessions that will be running concurrently. The sessions will explore some of the more specific issues involved in developing an enterprising model, drawing from the direct experience of HCT Group and CTA.  More information on these sessions will be available shortly.

Please Note: If at any point you become unable to attend the event please make sure to let us know as there will be a £20 administration fee if you cancel less than a week before the event.

If you’re not a CTA member you can still book onto the event at a cost of £40 – please email hello@ctauk.org to book.
