PCV D1 Training in Scotland
Few people under 40 years old currently hold D1 entitlement on their driving licence. This is a problem which is already affecting community transport operators, but is likely to be a bigger problem in the future for those operators who use minibuses as the pool of people with D1 entitlement, and who can therefore legally drive a minibus with a weight of 3.5 tonnes or more, is diminishing. Demand for community transport is growing and in order to meet this demand the sector needs to grow its pool of D1 compliant drivers.
Working with support from Transport Scotland, the Community Transport Association (CTA) are currently managing a programme which aims to support people, within the community transport sector in Scotland, who are interested the future instruction of others towards obtaining PCV-D1 entitlement on their driving license.
In order to be eligible for the programme an applicant must work for a not-for-profit organisation and demonstrate a keen interest in providing driver training in the future.
The programme will support the costs involved in obtaining a PCV-D1 qualification including: training materials, driving instruction, test booking and access to a vehicle for training and test purposes where necessary. As well as supporting the costs to gain a Driver CPC qualification, and complete trainer training.
