MiDAS FAQs
A helping hand with MiDAS questions.
On this page you can find a list of some of our most frequently asked questions, both for Learners and Driver Assessors.
FAQs - Learners
I am having log-in issues/not receiving password reset emails.
Firstly, check your Spam/Junk inbox in your emails to see if it has ended up in there. If not, or if you're having other log-in issues, contact the training team who can assist you at training@ctauk.org
How do I begin my MiDAS Learning?
To get started, visit Access my LMS, where you will find your MiDAS Training Dashboard. To start your training click on the My Training button on the menu bar, where you will be able to access the various modules that form the theory part of your training. If you need some help getting started, you can watch the video below first which shows you how to access the Learning Management System and how to navigate through each module.
Module is stuck/won't progress.
If a module is stuck on "In progress", this usually means you haven't clicked on or watched all of the interactive elements on the page, or you haven't scrolled to the very bottom of the page. Once you have done this, completely close the page using the "X" at the top right side of the screen, which should then unlock the next module. If the module is still showing as "In progress" after doing this, please reach out to our training team at training@ctauk.org
Who organises my practical?
Driver Assessors will receive an email to let them know that a learner has passed their theory. This should then prompt the assessor to reach out to arrange a date and time for the practical. Ideally, the practical should be completed as soon as possible after the theory has been passed.
Do I need to do a driving assessment if I have a D1 driving licence by test?
If you have driving licence category D1, D, C1 or C obtained by test then your organisation may allow you to claim an exemption from undertaking a MiDAS driving assessment. This is at the discretion of your organisation and will depend on their requirements and procedures. You still need to undertake the online theory assessment in order to be issued with a MiDAS certificate.
How do I obtain my certificate using the new online system?
Once you have passed your theory and practical, your Driver Assessor will be required to file practical information on your behalf, which is evidence of your pass. This will then trigger your certificate to be generated online for you to access. You will receive an email asking you to fill out an evaluation form, and once this has been filled out, your certificate will become downloadable.
FAQs - Driver Assessors
Do I need a MiDAS Driver certificate to become a Driver Assessor?
It is a requirement that any DA candidate holds a valid MiDAS Driver certificate. You may seek an exemption from this if you hold a driving licence category D1, D, C1 or C obtained by test. If you do not hold one of these licences or a MiDAS Driver certificate, but would like to undertake the DA course, please contact training@ctauk.org
What licence do I need to be a DA?
It is highly desirable that a candidate for a DA course holds a D1 licence. If you do not and would like to proceed with undertaking the course, there are 4 conditions.
- You must meet the conditions for driving a minibus under a category B licence. This means you cannot be paid for your role as a Driver Assessor. Where you are clearly a volunteer and receive only out-of-pocket expenses, there is no problem. Where you are a paid employee and either have minibus driving or driver training in your job description, or your employer/organisation receives payment for providing MiDAS, you would not be able to carry out the role of a DA with only a category B licence.
- You will only be able to conduct driving assessments in a minibus that can be driven on a Category B driving licence.
- You will only be able to assess drivers from within your own organisation.
- You would not be able to assess a driver with a D1 licence. Your DA certificate would be restricted to only being able to issue certificates for category B licence holders. You would not be able to assess drivers who hold a D1 licence.
My organisation is not receiving welcome emails.
Firstly, we recommend that all learners check their Spam/Junk inbox to see if the email has ended up in there. If the email is not there, please pass our whitelist information onto the organisations IT department to ensure our emails are going through and not being blocked by a firewall.
Our whitelisting details are below:
- All emails to learners come from training@ctauk.org
The URL of the online system is https://ctauk.org/ and the URL for the LMS is https://training.ctauk.org/
If your IT department require our IP address, please contact training@ctauk.org and we can provide it for you.
I've allocated a learner pass, what happens now?
Once you have allocated a learner pass, the learner will receive an email with a link to create an account and complete the online theory course. The link will expire after 14 days. If you need to resend the welcome email, you can do this by clicking on "View Progress" of the learner, on the View Learner Progress page.
Can I cancel an allocated learner pass?
Once you have allocated a pass, you are still able to cancel it and reissue it to someone else, as long as the learner has not created an account.
What does the practical element of the course include?
The practical element of the course includes:
Standard
- Individual Practical Session (up to 45 minutes) - An opportunity to address any questions which the driver has following the online theory course and ensures the driver is familiar with the vehicle.
- Driving Assessment (up to 45 minutes) - A minimum of 30 minutes of assessed driving (split into 2x15 minute parts with 10 minutes for feedback in between). 1 major fault at any time or 3 of the same minor faults during part 2 of the assessment results in a fail. Must include a minimum of 1 reversing manoeuvres.
Accessible (optional)
- Practical Skills Session (up to 60 minutes) - Opportunity to discuss the online theory. Includes a demonstration from a DA showing best practice of the use of a Passenger Lift or ramp and WTORS. Additional time for supervised practices may be required for delegates who are less experienced.
- Practical Skills Assessment (up to 20 minutes per driver) - An assessment of a driver’s ability to demonstrate safe practice when using a Passenger Lift (or ramp) and WTORS
What vehicle is required for a MiDAS driving assessment?
A MiDAS Driving Assessment must be conducted in a minibus - i.e. a vehicle adapted to carry 9 to 16 passengers (excluding the driver).
When should a practical be delivered after a driver completes their theory?
We recommend that once a driver has passed their theory that they complete their practical within 3 months.
0-3 months
Recommended timeframe.
3-6 months
Recommended that the driver revisits the online content before attending their practical.
6+ months
Driver would need to complete the online theory course and pass their theory assessment again before attending practical. Their learner pass is still valid - they do not need to pay again.
What happens if a driver fails their theory assessment?
When a driver fails, the Driver Assessor and any Administrators on an account will receive an email confirming this. We recommend contacting the driver to discuss any additional support needs. If it is appropriate, a Driver Assessor or Administrator can request for the driver's account to be reset. This will allow them to work through the modules again and reattempt the theory assessment. If the driver is unsuccessful again, then any request to reset their account after this will be considered on a case-by-case basis. You can send your requests to training@ctauk.org.
I can't find the learner I am looking for to file practical information.
If a learner is not showing up on File Practical Info page, you may have to adjust the date range, as this area automatically only shows learners who have passed their theory within the last month. If you're looking for a learner who has passed more than a month ago, change the "completed between" date range back a few months and hit the search icon. You do not need to enter the learners name in the name field for them to come up.
How do I see which answers my drivers got wrong on the theory assessment?
On the LMS, there is a "Reports" tab which lets you run a report on an individual. Click on "Theory Assessment Report" in the drop down menu and type in the individuals name or email address to bring up the report of all the questions the learner answered in their theory assessment. You can then use this report to go over anything that the learner got wrong.
How do I add my organisation to the MiDAS Provider map?
From you Organisation Dashboard, click Organisation Profile. On that page, you will be able to select to appear on the provider map and fill out the information which you would like to appear.
We'd love your feedback on what's working well and what we can improve on!
