We have over 1000 members delivering a diversity of transport projects and services, from community-owned buses and car clubs to Dial-a-Ride and active travel, which are at the very heart of urban, rural communities across England.

Update: BSOG fuel uplift for community transport operators

Following our second fuel impact report, we received a letter from Simon Lightwood MP, Minister for Local Transport, in July. The Minister confirmed that the government had taken our evidence on board and would provide an update.

On 6 October 2026, the Department for Transport (DfT) confirmed a one-off uplift to the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) in response to rising fuel prices. The uplift is worth 60%, made up of a 15% base uplift and a 45% targeted uplift. While commercial operators must show they meet the conditions for the targeted uplift, community transport operators that claim BSOG are automatically eligible for the full 60%.

DfT has already contacted all current claimants, and claims must be returned by 12 October. We welcome this decision, which reflects the evidence operators shared through our surveys and our ongoing work with DfT. However, the uplift only reaches operators that already claim BSOG, and many services continue to face serious pressure. We will keep making the case for wider support and are continuing to track the impact of fuel prices through our follow-up survey, open until Friday 16 October.

We build alliances and collaborations with those who share our values of accessibility, inclusion and sustainability and our belief that everyone in England, no matter who they are or where they live, should have access to local transport which meets their needs.

We currently direct our policy and research work through our conneCTing England programme.

The CTA conneCTing programme aims to bring together community transport (CT) within England to work collectively and collaboratively with partners on the topics and issues that are important to them.

Through the regional forums and cross sector collaboration, CTA hopes to promote better understanding and communication between CT stakeholders in England and to develop practical solutions to the challenges faced by community transport.
