Deep Dive - Research in England

This session will introduce and explore the five new Deep Dive Areas of research for CTA England, shaping the future of community transport. We will discuss the focus areas, their implications, and how they will guide sector-wide improvements. Attendees will have the opportunity to share insights, ask questions, and consider how these research themes apply to their work.

 

The five Deep Dive Areas are:

  • Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Community Transport – Understanding barriers, real-world case studies, and guidance for adoption.
  • Group Hire Services – Evaluating their economic and social impact and improving best practices.
  • Volunteer Car Schemes – Exploring operational models, sustainability challenges, and integration with local transport strategies.
  • Community Bus Routes – Examining their role in replacing or complementing public transport and addressing Section 22 permit implications.
  • Development, Partnerships & Franchising – Mapping funding models, governance structures, and new collaborative approaches for service sustainability.
