Join Our Research on Transport Challenges for Disabled Young People

As part of our upcoming research with the Motability Foundation, we’re exploring how Community Transport can have a meaningful impact in overcoming the travel barriers faced by disabled children and young people.

We’re committed to co-design, not just as a process, but as a core principle. By collaborating with disabled children and young people, their families, Community Transport Operators, and Disabled People’s Organisations (DPOs) from the very beginning, we can shape services where your involvement and voice are at the heart of this project.

We are looking for Community Transport Operators, who are either currently providing services for children and young people or who are not currently providing services for disabled children and young people but are interested in doing so in the future.

By working closely with us you’ll help develop networks, better understand local needs and provide support. We are looking for 8 lead operators to partner with the CTA to:

  • Assess local transport needs for disabled children and young people

  • Evaluate existing transport services in the area

  • Work with partners to create effective community transport solutions

Financial support of up to £3000, along with CTA staff capacity, will be available to support and guide the lead organisations.

As a lead organisation, you will:

  • Work with the CTA to build a local network of organisations focused on improving transport for disabled children and young people.

  • Work with CTA to assess local transport need and current provision levels, through 3 partner meetings highlighting key gaps in current provision.

  • Work with local DPOs and disabled children, young people and their families, to co-design community transport solutions.

The lead organisations will be selected to ensure:

  • A broad geographical representation of Community Transport Operators across the UK

  • 4 operators currently providing services for disabled children and young people

  • 4 operators not currently providing services for disabled children and young people but interested in doing so

We will be selecting final areas and lead organisations in September 2025 but will contact you prior to this date to discuss your interest and involvement in the project.
