ArdnamurchanThe Urram transport service assists residents of the community council areas of Ardgour, Sunart, Morvern, Acharacle and West Ardnamurchan to attend NHS Highland hospital appointments and any other health and essential appointments. It is person-centered and each journey is planned to meet the individual service user’s needs.
The service operates using a combination of Urram transport vehicles and volunteers’ drivers own cars. The service is supported by the Peregrine Ardnamurchan Charitable Trust, Highland Council, Scottish Government, Energy Trust and Transport Scotland. Running costs are supported by a contribution by NHS Highland for a mileage payment and donations from the service users.
Volunteers using their own vehicles to deliver the service will be renumerated for the miles covered. Most journeys are to Belford Hospital Fort William and Raigmore Hospital Inverness but occasionally to specialist services in Dundee, Glasgow, Dingwall and Edinburgh and Urram has a Friends scheme to support volunteer drivers on longer or more complex journeys.
Main responsibilities:
· Driving service users to Health appointments and NHS Highland medical appointments.
· Collecting and returning the Urram Car as necessary.
· Respond sensitively to service user’s individual needs e.g., comfort and refreshment breaks.
Volunteers will not become involved in personal care, counselling, domestic tasks such as cooking or cleaning, nor financial or legal matters.
