Driving Connections: The Vital Link between Community Transport and Voluntary Organisations

VAST, the VCSE and Community Transport

The bond between community transport and the broader voluntary sector represents a remarkable example of how partnership working can improve lives in communities nationwide, irrespective of whether the people reside in the heart of urban sprawl, rural landscapes, islands or along our picturesque coastlines.

Reforming Network Support Grant

Network Support Grant (NSG) is essential funding for Scotland's Community Transport sector.

More than 1 in 3 Community Transport operators here claim NSG, the successor to the Bus Services Operators' Grant (BSOG).

According to Transport Scotland, NSG is a 'discretionary grant available to both commercial and community bus operators to support Scotland’s bus network and keep fares more affordable than would otherwise be the case'.

CTA Leads Coalition Calling for More Plugged-In Communities

CTA has assembled a diverse coalition of influential organisations to call on the Scottish Government to invest further in Community Transport's transition to zero-emission fleets.

The Plugged-In Communities Grant Fund has invested more than £3.92 million over the past three years to enable 43 Community Transport operators across Scotland to replace their ageing, polluting vehicles with 52 new, modern Electric Vehicles (EVs), which are cheaper and greener to run.

Wales Climate Week Reflections: Taking a whole-community approach to developing locally tailored transport solutions

In early December, I had the honour of joining the Welsh Government in hosting a session for Wales Climate Week 2023. This virtual conference spanned five days, from December 4th to 8th, coinciding with COP28. Throughout the week, over 4,400 viewers tuned into 28 sessions, led by 30 chairs and featuring 95 speakers who delved into the question: "How do we tackle climate change in a fair way?"

Tackling Loneliness in England

It is no news that loneliness is a growing problem in England, with recent studies showing that over 3 million people often or always feel lonely.

While loneliness can affect people of all ages, it is particularly prevalent among older people who may have lost friends and family members and have difficulty getting out and about.
