Community transport works across the Christmas period, even on Christmas day, to provide those who would otherwise be alone with access to family, friendship, company and independence over the holidays and we’re collecting stories of the incredible work that our members do.

Take a look at our main Community Transport Christmas page for all our stories so far.

We have developed a new scheme where we offer low income families & single parents (who access children centres on a regular basis) a day out at venues and establishments in the local region. We have gained grant funding to offer subsidised transport and entry costs to make the trips more affordable to local families and children.

So far, we have offered a number of family trips to those families that access Withernsea Children Centre, however, in 2017 we have funding to target all the children centres located in the Holderness area. The family trips provide access to exciting, positive, and at times, educational activities/venues in the statutory holiday period.

This provision will help raise aspirations and ensure that children can continue their learning and personal development in the holidays. It will also offer families and children who are vulnerable and deprived opportunities for shared positive experiences and allow them to create new memories, together as a family. The areas the children centre’s serve suffer from high levels of deprivation which contributes to families being isolated and socially excluded. They don’t have the financial assets to go on holidays and day trips, like many other families. Therefore, the family trips are a source of real anticipation and excitement for the whole family.

With this in mind, the anticipation is building for families who access the Withernsea Children Centre, as we will have 2 mini buses taking them on Friday 23rd December to see the production of Cinderella at The Crowns Theatre in Hull. The show will be jam-packed with laughs, action, drama, surprises, foot- tapping, sing-along songs with stacks of audience participation, which should really get everyone ready for the visit from St. Nick a couple of days later!
