This research project seeks to evaluate the impact of group hire services delivered by community transport organisations (CTOs) on the wider voluntary and community sector (VCS) and public sector. Group hire is the most popular service among responding organisations in the Mapping England and Mapping Scotland surveys, yet it remains an underappreciated source of income and impact.
Electric vehicles (EVs) are central to achieving net zero and reducing emissions, but adoption within community transport remains low. Only 3% of vehicles in England’s community transport fleet are electric, while 39% of diesel vehicles fail Euro 6 standards. With Clean Air Zone exemptions set to expire and funding increasingly linked to sustainability, the need for action is urgent.
