Community Transport Association has launched the Women in Community Transport UK Network, a nationwide group dedicated to addressing pivotal issues concerning women in the transport sector.

The UK and established London working group will actively contribute to the Women in Bus and Coach (WiBC) initiative and work together to challenge and eliminate barriers faced by women on a broader scale.

Our esteemed panel of judges had the incredibly difficult task of evaluating all the outstanding submissions and narrowing down our nominees to the very best of the best. Our judges wanted to thank everyone who submitted a nomination, and it was so inspiring to see so many stories of excellence from across the UK.

The Department for Infrastructure (DfI) is currently reviewing the Concessionary Fares Scheme, which provides free or discounted travel on public transport for older people and people with disabilities in Northern Ireland. The Scheme is funded by the Department and delivered by Translink, the main public transport operator in Northern Ireland. Through the Assisted Rural Transport Fund, SmartPasses can also be used on Rural Community Transport Partnerships Dial-a-lift journeys.  

As we continue to celebrate CT Week, we want to increase public knowledge of community transport users. Essentially, community transport is about people and connecting communities.

Community transport services in the UK encompass a diverse range of vital transport options, playing a crucial role in enhancing mobility and inclusivity within the wider transport network.

These services utilise various vehicles, ranging from minibuses to mopeds, and include a variety of essential offerings such as voluntary car schemes, community bus services, school transport, hospital transport, dial-a-ride, wheels-to-work, and group hire services.

UK charity leads first-ever Community Transport Week 

Local charities and community groups across the UK are preparing to celebrate the first-ever Community Transport Week this October.

For nearly 60 years, Community Transport has delivered lifeline services to keep communities connected, helping millions of people to access colleges, hospitals, schools, shops, universities, workplaces and more, as well as creating local jobs and volunteering opportunities. 

Our first-ever Climate Action programme in Scotland has gone from strength to strength this year.
