Elderly and vulnerable passengers that benefit from on-demand bus and taxi services met with Local Transport Minister, Simon Lightwood, in West London today (17 October 2024) to mark Community Transport Week 2024.

The Local Transport Minister celebrated the work of operators as he visited Westway Community Transport in Westbourne Park.

As part of Community Transport Week’s ‘Accelerating Community-Led Climate Action’ day, I had the pleasure of visiting one of our inspiring members, Climate Action Strathaven (CAS). It was a fantastic morning spent geeking out on climate action, and I couldn’t be more impressed by what I saw.

Community Transport is empowering people and communities all over the UK to take climate action every single day – I know because I see it in my own neighbourhood and I’m one of them!

The Southside of Glasgow is a veritable hotbed of climate-friendly community solutions.

As part of CT Week, I met with Huw Davies at Partneriaeth Ogwen to discuss community-led climate action. Partneriaeth Ogwen is a social enterprise in Bethesda in the beautiful Ogwen valley in North Wales.

It is more important than ever to think ahead when it comes to securing grant income. Due to the significant demand for grants, it can take funders longer to make a decision as they are receiving large volumes of applications. Smaller grants can take four to six months for a decision, while larger grants with a two-stage application process can take up to 12 months.  

Since stepping into the role of CEO at the Community Transport Association (CTA) two years ago, I’ve learned the importance of modernising our approach to better support our members and the wider community transport sector. As we celebrate the second-ever Community Transport Week, this is the perfect opportunity to share and reflect on how the Community Transport sector and the CTA have evolved and grown, and to look ahead to the future.
