Community transport works across the Christmas period, even on Christmas day, to provide those who would otherwise be alone with access to family, friendship, company and independence over the holidays and we’re collecting stories of the incredible work that our members do.

‘Tis the season to be jolly!!

It’s that time of year again; frosty morning’s and chilly evening’s but also the time of year where many disabled and older people in our communities find themselves indoors.

It’s also the time of year when London is lit with sparkling lights and endless amounts of people are out and about buying gifts for their loved ones and preparing for a joyous Christmas, full of fun, laughter and quality time with their friends and family.

At Brent CT we want to ensure that the disabled and elderly residents in our community are able to enjoy the build up to Christmas just like others do and for this reason, we commit to putting on the Festive Bus each year.

Our sleighs (accessible minibuses) are decorated with Christmas décor and sound checks are done to ensure that our on board ‘DJ decks’ are in working order to pump out the Christmas anthems! The bus takes passengers on a tour across London, passing by famous landmarks including Big Ben, The London Eye, Buckingham Palace, London Bridge and London’s latest addition, The Shard! Adding to the Christmas spirit, our staff dress up all Christmassy and entertain for the evening; Santa and his helper get going with a singalong followed by the serving of warm mince pies and other refreshments. Oh, and not forgetting the all-important pulling of Christmas crackers!

Local care homes, individuals living in the borough and their carers, day centres and community groups take advantage of this outing. This year the Festive Bus is running from 19^th to 23^rd December 2016 but due to all dates being booked up, we are now taking bookings for earlier dates!

All the above trips as well as our day to day services like door to door transport (Community Car Schemes) are such an important factor for the disabled and elderly people in our communities. Community Transport contributes significantly to the social inclusion of these people’s lives, many of whom would be stuck indoors if it was not for our accessible transport services. At Brent CT, we will continue to ensure that we put our members and service users first and continue delivering social value in our community through all seasons.
