      O Ddrws i Ddrws

O Ddrws i Ddrws have a project running to battle loneliness. The organisation works together with a project called ‘Be Nawn Ni Heddiw?’ translated to ‘What shall we do today?’ A number of activities were organised in the run up to Christmas. I joined our passengers at one of the activities at Congl Meinciau Botwnnog – a group get together once a month for a cuppa and chat. Last Wednesday on December 12th they had the opportunity to create a Christmas wreath – half took up this offer and the others just came and had a good chat!

One of the participants has only just started coming to the events. Her social worker realised that she was getting uneasy in the care home she’s living in. This lady is mentally agile but is physically disabled, which makes it very difficult for her to get out of the care home for outings. I met up with her social worker in a partnership meeting and she asked whether we could pick her up from Cricieth and, because of the funding that we have secured for these sort of outings, we were able to accommodate. This was the second event that she took part in. This event was held in Tafarn y Fic Llithfaen, a community owned pub and dinner was prepared for £3 per head with entertainment by a Welsh singer and poet Geraint Lovegreen. The participants all enjoyed themselves listening to the songs and poems!

We’re also going to be holding a Christmas dinner at the Nanhoron arms hotel in Nefyn. Last year O Ddrws i Ddrws took a group of people to the Age Well centre newly opened in Bontnewydd near Caernarfon. I’ve just taken a phone-call from two ladies who wish to participate and are looking forward to the mushroom pancake!

These events are put on in partnership and O Ddrws i Ddrws are happy to provide the transport. We also like to get involved with the events so that we get to know the participants!
