This Christmas, many of our members will be providing a service, not just to their usual passengers, but to other members of their community who need transport over the holidays. Nigel Caldicott from Wyre Forest Dial-a-Ride got in touch to tell us about how they’re helping passengers new and old:

“This year, and for the first time, Wyre Forrest Dial-a-Ride were asked to run a Park & Ride service in Bewdley to provide transport for the public wishing to attend the annual Bewdley Christmas Light Festival.  Whilst the weather wasn’t brilliant we carried over 500 passengers and raised a considerable sum in donations for Wyre Forrest Dial-a-Ride (including a tray of Christmas buns which were delicious!) We have also provided 4 minibuses for the local Age UK Lunch Club members so that they could go to the matinee performance of a local pantomime which they really appreciated!

On Friday afternoon we will be holding our Christmas ‘Fuddle’ which is our annual get together where we say a big thank you to all our staff, volunteers, members, sponsors and supporters without whom we would find it considerably more difficult to operate. This year we have seen a real upturn in volunteer support, experienced a more supportive atmosphere from local businesses, and the local MP and Councillors have also been particularly supportive of our aims and objectives.

A number of local theatre groups in the Wyre Forest perform their pantomimes after Christmas so we are planning to put trips on to the matinee performance which are well supported by our members and appreciated by the theatre groups.”

Thank you to Nigel and the team at Wyre Forest Dial-a-Ride for their story and for the work they do both at Christmas and all year round. If you have a community transport Christmas story you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you: just email tom@ctauk.org.
