More Than a Minibus: Our CEO’s Welcome to CTWeek25!

As we kick off our third CTWeek, it gives us all a chance to pause and reflect on all the incredible work happening within Community Transport across the UK. In a sector as diverse and fast-moving as ours, it is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day challenges and lose sight of the bigger picture.

CTWeek reminds us to take a step back and celebrate what we’ve achieved together.

At CTA, we are focused on looking ahead and reaffirming our purpose to create a sector that is strong, sustainable and prepared for the future.

In 2024, we launched our CTA Manifesto: A Better Future for Transport - National Challenges, Community Solutions ahead of the general election. We are now in the final stages of updating manifestos for Wales and Scotland, in preparation for their upcoming elections.

In the process of doing this, one thing is clear: the challenges which people face when it comes to transport are not new. Our sector has long recognised the barriers to innovation and growth. What is needed now is united and decisive action to overcome these challenges and achieve lasting progress.

Community Transport has connection at its core. Just as we connect with our passengers and those who benefit from our services, we also need decision makers and policymakers to connect and work alongside us.

We know that Community Transport plays a unique and vital role in the UK’s transport landscape. When we work in a truly collaborative way, as partners, we can be part of the solution to many of the challenges our communities face.

This year's CTWeek theme of More Than a Minibus captures this perfectly.

As a sector, one of our key messages is clear: we want to do more, and we can do more - with the right support and resources in place.

It is so important that we reach out to those who may not yet be familiar with Community Transport. As a sector, we have the opportunity to champion who we are, what we do, and the difference we make in people’s lives every day.

That is why, as part of CTWeek25, we are encouraging members to reach out and engage with local decision-makers and elected representatives, so they can see first-hand the impact of community transport within their local area. Ultimately, we hope to build lasting support that continues well beyond this important week of celebration.

Because at the heart of Community Transport, we are a movement of people, and we really are more than a minibus.
