Driving Communities Forward: Community Transport Week 2026 begins

Driving Communities Forward

As we begin our fourth Community Transport Week, I'm pleased to see organisations across the UK once again coming together to highlight the work of our sector and the difference it makes every day.

Since it began, CTWeek has become an important opportunity to celebrate the people behind Community Transport, showcase the work happening in communities across the country, and make sure the sector's voice is heard.

This year's theme, Driving Communities Forward, feels particularly relevant. It recognises the paid and volunteer drivers, staff, trustees and volunteers who make Community Transport possible, while also looking ahead to what our sector needs for the future.

Making the case for change

Driver recruitment, licensing, volunteering, rising costs and long-term funding are all significant challenges for Community Transport Organisations. At CTA, a major focus this year has been our D1 campaign, calling for changes to minibus driver licensing rules to help tackle driver shortages and support the future of Community Transport.

That campaign will come to Westminster this week, when CTA members, stakeholders and MPs come together for our D1 Reception and AGM. We'll launch our white paper setting out proposals for change and make the case directly to decision-makers for changes that can enable a new generation of minibus drivers.

I'm looking forward to seeing many of our members there and bringing their experiences directly into the conversation with MPs.

Bringing community transport into the spotlight

But our engagement with decision-makers doesn't begin and end at Westminster. Throughout the week, we want them to hear directly from Community Transport organisations about the services they provide, the challenges they are facing, and what they need to continue serving their communities.

We also want organisations to show the breadth of Community Transport. Whether you operate minibuses, community cars, accessible vehicles, volunteer driver schemes, or a combination of services, CTWeek is a chance to show what Community Transport looks like and why it matters.

Get involved with CTWeek26

We have resources, templates and social media assets available on the CTA website to help you get involved throughout the week. Share your stories, celebrate your people and help decision-makers understand the difference community transport makes.

Community Transport is making a difference in communities every day. This week, we want more people to see that work, understand its value, and recognise what is needed to sustain it.

I'd like to thank everyone helping to drive the Community Transport movement forward, and wish you all a very happy CTWeek26!
