From October to December, CTA is holding a series of free online events looking at important topics for the community transport sector, and what life might look like for our members over the next few months and into 2021.  Throughout lock-down, our online events, from our weekly member drop in calls to our Recovery and Restart webinar in July, have been great ways for members to connect with each other and the CTA team in what has been a challenging and uncertain time. Your feedback has been that you wanted to see more opportunities for online events looking at the important topics and issues facing the community transport sector at the moment.

You can find our full programme of events here.

On 01 October, we held the first event of our online series – Good to Go: How to Run School Transport. The event focused on how to operate your school minibus in the current climate, ensuring any journeys are safe and COVID-secure.

The event was led by Rachel Milne, Director of North East Transport Training, based in Aberdeenshire. Rachel guided us through the operational requirements necessary to run a minibus, covering driver licensing, why section 19 permits are necessary, and where they can be purchased, as well as the importance of undertaking appropriate driver training.

We then discussed how to undertake the necessary safety measures in response to coronavirus including cleaning, PPE and the responsibilities of drivers and schools. Participants talked with Rachel and each other about their experiences and questions, sharing ideas and insights into the issue. Below, you can find Rachel’s presentation as well as a full recording of the event.
