Community transport works across the Christmas period, even on Christmas day, to provide those who would otherwise be alone with access to family, friendship, company and independence over the holidays and we’re collecting stories of the incredible work that our members do.

Redbourn Care Group, Redbourn, Hertfordshrie

On Sunday the 4^th of December the 6^th  annual  Christmas tea party took place in partnership with Youth Connections and  Redbourn Care Group.  Teenagers from the local area put on a fabulous Christmas tea party for residents of Redbourn. This event is a highlight in the Redbourn calendar, especially for those residents who may be lonely, live by themselves due to recent bereavement or have lost some of their independence.  It was very special to see so many residents getting into the spirit of the festive season.

The transport for the event was organised and provided by Redbourn Care Group and our volunteers, transporting 43 guests whether it be using our mini bus or some of the fabulous volunteers and their cars.

A young person’s choir and a local Jazz band provided the entertainment. The atmosphere was fantastic and it was great to see so many of the residents tapping their feet and dancing to well-known tunes. One resident made a wonderful speech of thanks on behalf of all the residents and said he is “looking forward to next year already.”

Youth Connections put on a beautiful spread of tea, sandwiches and lots of mince pies and cake. The event was organised extremely well and each resident left with a big smile on their face and a Christmas gift!
