Student Volunteering Week 2025

Student Volunteering Week takes place from 10th to 16th February 2025, and is a brilliant opportunity to engage young people in community transport across the UK.

Well versed in all things digital and actively looking for opportunities to develop skills in customer service, logistics and planning, students from your local college or university could be a valuable addition to your operation.

This week long celebration is the perfect time to get in touch with your local colleges and universities and promote your work. Building relationships with 'Student support' coordinators is a fantastic way to tap into local volunteering networks while gaining support and new skills.

You can find the details of student support officers simply by Googling your local colleges and universities. Use search terms such as 'Student Support at XXXX university' or 'student volunteering at XXXX college'. This will help you to find the right person or department to contact.

We have put together this template letter for you to send to your local Student Support coordinator, all you need to do is fill in the highlighted sections and send it off either by post or email.

If you're still thinking about participating in Student Volunteering Week 2025, here are some positive outcomes to consider.

Highlight Volunteering

During Student Volunteering Week, universities and schools nationwide actively promote volunteering, helping to increase awareness and enthusiasm among students. This collective focus makes it easier to attract and recruit young volunteers for community transport roles.

Develop Transferable Skills

Volunteering in community transport allows students to gain valuable skills such as communication, customer service, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management. But remember, this can work both ways! Students may be able to offer support in areas such as social media, marketing, driving, and community care. Students can fill these roles, bringing fresh perspectives and energy to the organisation.

Positive Wellbeing

Engaging in volunteer activities has been shown to improve mental health and overall wellbeing. By participating in community transport services, students can experience a sense of purpose and contribute positively to their personal development and bridge generational gaps in the local community.

Building Sustainable Community Engagement

Involving students during this dedicated week fosters long-term relationships between educational institutions and community transport operators. These partnerships can lead to sustained volunteer involvement, ensuring ongoing support for essential services and promoting a culture of civic responsibility among young people.
